An afternoon of storytelling!

This week the boys in 5th and 6th class were treated to a special visit by local storyteller Niall de Burca. He captivated his audience with fantastic stories of Irish legends and even used the help of some boys to tell the stories! He was a great success and we all had a really enjoyable afternoon full of laughter and adventure!

Maths trail!

To celebrate maths week we spent our maths lesson on Monday out and about around the school completing a maths trail. In teams of five we used lots of different maths equipment to find answers to our questions and we even took a traffic survey and recorded our results on a graph. We had great fun and the boys are wondering already when we can go on another trail!

Keeping fit down at Lough Lannagh!

This week we took advantage of the beautiful Autumn weather and both 6th classes headed down to Lough Lannagh. Mr Devaney was the time keeper while I shouted words of encouragement to the lads as they ran a lap of the lake! We took a lovely group shot down at the pier! Long may the nice weather continue!

Inventors mini projects!

Having studied the Industrial Revolution in history the boys completed mini projects on an Inventor of their choice! Some of the detail and work that went into the projects was to a really high standard. Have a look at a selection of many below!

Children's book festival

On Monday this week we took a trip to the Library to take part in a library quiz. The boys were divided into teams and had to use all the resources in the Library to find the answers to their questions. The Library was opened especially for the quiz so it was extra special having the whole place to ourselves! The winning team were presented with medals! Well done to all involved!

Board games!

In the world we live in today we depend so much on technology! This is true for the lads too and for a change we set up a number of board games in the classroom and had some great fun! Sometimes we forget how much enjoyment we can have with some good old fashioned games!

Having fun with chocolate in Maths!!!

This week we are concentrating on Data in maths and how information is recorded and presented to us in trend graphs and bar charts. Using boxes of Smarties we sorted our sweets into colour and then created our own bar graph to show the different colour smarties in a box. We practised using our x and y axis and reading graphs. We also had fun finding the average number of colours in a box! And best of all we had a nice Monday treat of chocolate for lunch!
