Rugby coaching

We have been very lucky to have had local rugby coach Seamus King into the school to help with some rugby coaching and tips. The sun was shining brightly as the boys got to show off their new skills and tactics!

Autumn Art Work

With all the fabulous Autumn sunsets we have had over the last few days in Mayo we decided to recreate our own! Using a selection of Autumn colours we used different brush strokes and techniques to create the dusk skyline. We then made the painting our own by depicting an image using charcoal onto the background. The end result was quite striking. Have a look at our photos below!

Linen hall workshop

On Wednesday we took a trip to the Linenhall Arts Centre where we took part in the " Wacky Cups" workshop. The boys got a chance to design their own wacky cup for the RoolaBoola festival using a selection of art materials. They also designed their very own coffee cup label for the Linenhall. The designs are fantastic so check out the photos below!

Back with a blast.......of running!

Our cross country trials have well and truly started! The sun stayed shining as we waited for the starting whistle and four laps later we had our top 5 qualifiers in 5th & 6th class. We were thrilled to have had Darragh Reilly, J.P. Mulcahy and Oran Groarke representing 6th Class yesterday in the Cross Country competition. The school came 4th this year. Well done to everyone involved especially Mr Canning!

Khan Academy

We enjoy maths in our classroom everyday and this year we are taking part once again in Khan Academy. It is a fantastic resource as it can be used in both school and at home. Each boy has their own account which records your progress and achievements.I would encourage all boys to make use of this great website this year!

International Dot Day!

International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity and making your own mark! It celebrates the impact of a small dot on a piece of paper and how it can lead to an exciting journey of art! We studied the work of a famous French Artist George Seurat  and how he used the technique of pointillism in his work. His work inspired us to create our own paintings and you must remember these are created only with the use of dots! Not a paintbrush in sight!

Report Writing!

We started back into 6th class with some report writing and no better topic to chose to write about than the All Ireland Semi Final between Dublin and Mayo. The quality of the work was fantastic and the boys worked in groups listening to a radio clip to gather as many adjectives and verbs as they could before they began their own report. A selection of their work is below so have a look---there are some definite budding sports writers in our room!!

Rugby World Cup 2015

The excitement of the Rugby World Cup 2015 began to rise in room 24 last week as the boys got busy designing and creating their own rugby jerseys! We only used fabrics and fibres to create these jerseys and great thought and effort went into some of the impressive designs! Have a look at their creations below and I think you will agree!
